SORSOGON DAIRY FARM
Cabid-an, Sorsogon City
 Research
Outreach Station -Sorsogon Dairy Farm is located at Cabid-an,
Sorsogon City, four kilometers away from the city proper. It
has a total area of 79 hectares. The station was established
in 1964 through R.A. 4041 specifically to develop and promote
the dairy industry through the production of dairy cattle and
setting up of dairy projects within the province.
Since 1964 until 1988 it was
operated as a dairy farm, where animals were raised for milk
production. It has also a dairy processing plant where milk produced
in the farm were processed. Other components/activities include:
milk feeding program, animal dispersal, breeding program through
artificial insemination. It also provides technical assistance/
health services to livestock farmers.
In 1992 , through Administrative
Order .No. 19 series of 1991, it was renamed as Sorsogon Research
Outreach Station, as one of the satellite stations of the Bicol
Integrated Agricultural Research Center of the Department of
Agriculture in region 5.
PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES

I. DAIRY ANIMAL PRODUCTION- the station produces quality dairy
animals by using scientific and appropriate technologies in the
care & mgt. of dairy cattle. The purpose of which is to produce
more milk and increase the dairy herd population in the farm
and the province. |

C) care and maintenance |

Sub- Components :
A. Dairy Processing - processing of dairy products like
choco milk, cheese and other dairy products.
B. Promotion and Marketing
of Dairy Products-advertisement
of fresh milk and other dairy products, and its sale to the public
at affordable price.
C. Milk Feeding Program-promote the consumption of fresh/choco
milk to combat malnutrition in the province |

II. PASTURE/ FORAGE
PRODUCTION AND MAINTENANCE
  Production and maintenance of 40 hectares
pasture and forage area as animal feeds and as source of planting
materials for insterested livestock raisers.
Assist farmers, LGU's, NGO's in the production of pasture grasses.

III. EXTENSION PROGRAM
 Livestock
upgrading through infusion of good quality semen from proven
bulls of dairy animals, carabao and hybrid boars to increase
farmers income.

lV. PROPAGATION OF HIGH
VALUE COMMERCIAL CROPS AND ESTABLISHMENT OF PALAYAMANAN PROJECT
 The
station produces/propagate pili seedlings and other high value
commercial crops for sale / distribution to interested farmers
in the province to promote the viability of crop-livestock integration.
The station is also involved in the PALAYAMANAN project where
it showcases the integration of vegetables , palay and livestock
in one area.
V. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Development of technologies through adaptation/verification trials
on different commodities is being conducted in the Station |
FITS-FARMERS INFORMATION
& TECHNOLOGY SERVICES
A one-stop information and technology shop under the Techno Gabay
Program aimed to empower the farmers, processors, traders and
entrepreneurs by making information and technology services accessible
during critical decision making on production, processing, trading
and marketing activities. It also provides IEC materials, exhibits
new technologies and has a data base on agriculture. It also
provides technical assistance to clients and link clients to
sources of quality planting materials and animal stocks. |
