VIRAC, CATANDUANES – To formalize the interagency convergence in support to the implementation of the Provincial Commodity Investment Plans (PCIP) aimed at making Catanduanes the country’s abaca and mangrove crab capital, an interagency convergence Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing initiated by the Philippine Rural Development Project of the Department of Agriculture (DA) was conducted on May 23, 2017 here.
The Local Government Unit of Ligao City in Albay won in the outstanding city/municipality category in the 2016 National Rice Achievers Search and received P1 million cash prize and trophy. Senator Cynthia Villar, chairperson of the senate committee on agriculture led the awarding ceremony held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on May 23, 2017.
The DA gave away over P52 million in cash prizes to seven provinces, 15 municipalities and cities, four Irrigators Associations (IAs), and three Small Water Impounding System Associations (SWISAs).
CADLAN, PILI, CAMARINES SUR – More than 600 farmers and fisherfolk from the five districts of Cam. Sur were treated to a whole day of fun and exciting events and valuable prizes during the Provincial Farmers’ Day at the Camarines Sur Capitol Convention Center as one of the highlights of the Kaogma Festival.
OIC Regional Technical Director for Operations of the Department of Agriculture Rodel P. Tornilla who represented DA Regional Executive Director Elena B. de los Santos, said the DA gave away over P5 million worth of agri machineries composed of 35 hand tractors with trailer and accessories, 5 palay threshers, and 2 rice transplanters. These aside from the generous prizes for the games/contest such as Maria Went to Market; Catch Me if You Can or Darakupan Orig; Corn Eating Contest; Sack Race; Manual Corn Shelling; Tiriladan Pili; Kudkud-puga; Manual Palay Threshing; Craft Making Contest; Rice and Safety Pin game; Egg in Spoon Relay; and Egg Toss game. Prizes include sacks of hybrid rice and certified palay seeds; hybrid corn seeds, bags of organic and urea fertilizer, native pigs, ducks, 2 knapsack sprayers, garden tools.
The Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP) sponsored by the Department of Agriculture Bicol culminated with a simple graduation ceremony held at the DA conference room on May 18, 2017. With Hawaiian theme and a tag line “Aloha Auina (a-oeeyaa) La”, these youths prepared a short program showcasing their talents and shared what they have learned in the 22 days journey as public servants.
