PILI, CAMARINES SUR. The Department of Agriculture once more opened its door to the Summer Internship Program for 2014. Out of more than 300 applicants only twenty six (26) made it after a rigorous screening.


DA OIC Regional Executive Director, Engr. Abelardo R. Bragas himself together with the Agency’s Regional Technical Directors and division chiefs were on hand to welcome the interns during the opening ceremony last April 21, 2014. The ceremony was divided into five parts: 1) the review of the qualification to be a part of the summer internship 2) the laying out of rules and regulations 3) the preface of the Agency’s Profile 4) the introduction to the Programs and Projects of the agency by Rosario C. Sales, OIC ,Chief Administrative Division 5) and the pledge of commitment. Mrs. Imelda Acompañado, OIC, Chief Human Resource Management Section initiated the ceremony together with the support of her staff.

The Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP) is an annual program of the Department of Agriculture. It is a 20-day experience wherein the interns are introduced to actual Government operations. In accordance with Section 13, Article XI of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, “The state shall promote and protect the physical, moral, spiritual and social well-being of the young people and inculcate in them patriotism and nationalism, and encourage their involvement in public and civil affairs, thus, the implementation of the Summer Internship Program. Moreover, as part of DA’s responsibility to the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons (NCWDP) as member of the governing board, persons with disability is one of the priorities of the program.

Dr. Elena B. Delos Santos in her message shared her experiences and what she went through during her early years. Likewise, Engr. Bragas talked about why one should have ambition. He emphasized that a man without it cannot go further in the realms of life and one cannot achieve anything. RTD Edgar Madrid asked the interns to withhold any judgment about the DA as a good agency not until they have truly known how it operates.
