More than a hundred Municipal Agricultural Officers and Coordinators region-wide convened at a Hotel in Naga City recently to work closely on the targets for the three major programs to be implemented by the Department of Agriculture Bicol this 2018.
The activity was conducted to update the key players of the latest mandate, programs and technology to increase the productivity of rice in the region.
Spearheaded by the Rice Program , Rodel Tornilla, OIC , Regional Technical director for Operations presented to the participants the three major Rice projects which are the Hybrid Model Farms, Inbred Model Farms and the Seed Exchange Program. According to Tornilla, Bicol region ranked no. 6 among the rice producing regions in the country but has the lowest yield per hectare. “Noon, nagkaroon ng proyekto ang pamahalaan na Community Seed Banking Project. Ibabalik natin yan ngayon sa pamamagitan ng programang ito”. Nais din natin na magkaroon ng access sa high quality seeds ang ating magsasaka. Maliban sa hybrid seeds, magbibigay din tayo ng certified seeds” he said. “Pagtumaas ang ani, maganda ang tingin sa atin ng mga tao, mas maganda kung nararamdaman ang epekto ng mga ginagawa natin” he added.
DA BICOL STRENGTHENS PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL FEEDMILLERS
IRIGA CITY. The Department of Agriculture Bicol through the Regulatory Division recently conducted the first Feed-millers meeting in 2018 at this municipality. Realizing the greater scope of responsibilities and functions, the said division in now serious to implement the mandates of the law pertaining to feeds, feed establishments, veterinary drugs and other related activities.
At least 20 participants mostly feed manufacturers attended the meeting and participated in the discussions regarding Feed manufacturing, Good Manufacturing Practices Good Manufacturing Practices Parameters and recent development in the industry.

“Gusto kan gobyerno na ayos kamo dawa nadanyaran kamo kan kalamidad kan Mayon Volcano (The government wants you to be okay even if you were affected by the calamity brought by Mayon Volcano),” says agriculturist Ronald Coprada of DA-Bicol High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP).
Quoting Rey Valera’s Kumusta Ka song, Coprada cited the advantage of this innovation of protective culture to their vegetables.
BARRIADA, LEGAZPI City---The Department of Agriculture-Bicol Team headed by the Agriculture Program Coordinating Officer (APCO) for Albay and Sorsogon Florentino Ubalde participated in the Orientation on Evacuation Center Management conducted by the regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on February 22, 2018 at Bicol Food Delight Hall here.
This is in response to the request of Secretary Francis Tolentino to assign government agencies in manning the different evacuation centers located in the 10 cities and municipalities affected by the eruption of Mayon Volcano.
DA-Bicol was tasked to monitor and assist the evacuees in the five evacuation centers in Sto. Domingo.
