Simeona Mahipos, 66, wakes up at 2 a.m. to catch the first trip going to Daet to bring her farm produce to the market. A farmer-resident of Brgy. Mangcamagong, Basud, Camarines Norte for 17 years, she sells sweet potato, bananas and cassava from 5 a.m. onwards to buy food and other commodities for her family. As a housewife and grandmother, she is expected to be home before 9 a.m. to do household chores and tend to her three grandchildren.
Farmer Regional Executive Director (RED) designate, Alfredo Rillo who served as the Department of Agriculture’s RED for the whole month of May ended his term by rendering a report to the DA regional officials and his fellow officers of the Agriculture and Fishery Councils in a simple ceremony.
He said that the DA personnel staff whom he had the chance to work and interact with during his short stint at the DA regional office and some of its provincial outreach stations were generally courteous and polite. He also observed that there were no idle personnel and that the officers and officials were focused and performing the jobs they are supposed to do. In his visit to some of the ROS in the provinces he said that the facilities and the on-going projects being implemented by these are presentable. But he noted that some facilities, machineries and production areas need repair and improvement.
SAN AGUSTIN, PILI, CAMARINES SUR - A two- storey dormitory building will be constructed inside the compound of the Agricultural Training Institute here to house farmers, rural women, rural youths, extension workers and other agricultural clients who will be attending various trainings of the institute. The ground breaking ceremony and laying of the time capsule was held on June 1st and was led by Bicol Agriculture regional executive director, Dr. Elena B. de los Santos, Mayor Tomas P. Bongalonta , ATI , OIC- Center chief, Vivien V. Carable , Cooperative Development Authority, regional director, Atty. Marilou Pacao , Albay provincial agriculturist Cheryl Rebeta ,former ATI center director Efren Sabularse and other guests. Fr. Johan Jarcia of St. Raphael parish officiated the blessing.
DA Bicol Regional Executive Director Elena B. delos Santos turns over the P1 million check to Ernesto Tabanang, Manager of the Masikap Multipurpose Coop based in Cobangbang, Daet, Camarines Norte. The amount was given by the DA to serve as working capital for the previously turned over Rice Processing Center 1 for their palay trading.
