DA-Bicol organizes Regional Bantay Presyo Monitoring Team to curb rising prices of agri commodities in Albay
LEGAZPI City---Albay Provincial Agriculturist Che Rebeta and her assistant Hilda Lopez both noted the abrupt increase in prices of vegetables like pechay, okra, and tomatoes days after the eruption of Mayon Volcano in the afternoon of January 13, 2018.
Three days after, the Provincial Government of Albay declared Albay under state of calamity when PhiVolcs raised the Alert Level to 4 of Mayon Volcano. The ash and small volcanic pebbles from the volcano damaged farms and affected the livelihood of the farmers and even the fisherfolks of Buhi.
This made the prices of agricultural commodities like vegetables, meat and fish to surge to more than 10% of the previous month’s prevailing market price.
