A retired geologist from Baras, Catanduanes who now devotes her time in farming and helps empower farmers and other rural women bags the coveted top prize for the 2015 Nationwide Search for Outstanding Rural Women. Luzviminda “Luz” Teston Oropesa received a cash prize of P100,000 from the Department of Agriculture through Undersecretary for Special Concerns Bernadette Romulo-Puyat who is also the chairperson of the DA –Gender and Development Focal Point System who conducts the annual search. In addition, she will also receive a project grant worth P100 thousand from the DA regional office in Bicol, according to DA Bicol regional executive director, Eng. Abelardo R. Bragas The awarding ceremonies which was graced by Remedios Rikken, chairperson, Philippine Commission on Women and other distinguished women and men was held on June 19 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
