The Department of Agriculture will recognize the local government units (LGUs) with commendable performance in the promotion and development of the corn sector and for their efforts in promoting the use of quality seeds specifically hybrid corn seeds, and other modern technologies for the farmers. These LGUs were likewise recognized for producing corn over and above their target and obtaining an average yield higher than the regional average, and for allocating budget from their local funds to support corn production. The municipalities of Ligao City in Albay, Baao, Calabanga, Tigaon and Naga City in Camarines Sur were conferred as Ari-Pinoy Quality Corn Achievers for CY 2014 for their exemplary performance in implementing the Corn Program in their respective locality. Likewise, five municipal and city agriculturists, two municipal corn coordinators and 17 agricultural extension workers will also be awarded. The three municipalities and two cities will receive 1 million project grant and the Agri-Pinoy Corn Achiever Trophy while the municipal/city agriculturists will receive Ps 30 thousand cash award. The two coordinators will get Ps 25,000 and the 17 technicians will receive Ps 20,000 cash award and also a trophy. The awarding will be held on October 22, 2014 at Limketkai Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City.
