   DA5 Celebrates May 2003 as Farmers' and Fisherfolk's Month with the theme: "Sigla't Yaman sa Kanayunan"


DA RFU-5 AT 2003 AGRI-AQUA AND AGRI-MACHINERY FAIR. DA -RFU5 displays Bicol's finest agricultural products at the 2003 Agri-Aqua and Agri-machinery Fair currently being held at DA compound, Elliptical Road, Quezon City. In celebration of the Farmers' and Fisherfolk's Month this May. DA-RFU5 joins NCR and the Southern Luzon Provinces in the second cluster of the different DA regional field offices and attached agencies.

Bayanihan Center Inauguration. Agriculture Secretary Luis P. Lorenzo Jr. was guest of honor during the launching and inauguration of the "Bayanihan center" a one-stop and convergence point for information, technology, marketing, credit and post harvest services of DA, TESDA, DAR, CSSAC. Also present were (L-R): DAR Secretary Roberto M. Pagdanganan, Congressman Felix R. Alfelor Jr.(4th dist.); DAR regional director. Atty. Nestor R. Acosta, DA regional executive director Dr. Fe D. Laysa, Pili mayor, Tomas P. Bongalonta Jr. Also present but not in photo were: Congressman Sulpicio Roco Jr., (2nd dist.); Dr. Wilfredo T. Olaño, CSSAC president, Chito Monzon, presidential assistant for Bicol Affairs; and Santiago M.Yabot, Jr. and deputy executive director of TESDA, some mayors, farmer leaders and members of the local media. Regional Executive Director Fe D. Laysa of the Department of Agriculture here has brought another honor to the Bicol region and the Bicolanos when she was chosen as one of the 21 Outstanding Filipino Women Research Managers and Scientists in Agriculture and Natural Resources by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD), an agency under the Department of Science and Technology and is based in Los Baños, Laguna. PCARRD formally launched a book which featured Laysa and 20 other outstanding women research managers and scientists. In 2000, Laysa was recipient of PANTAS award for Outstanding research Administrator given by the PCARRD in recognition to her outstanding contributions in the development of agriculture in the region particularly on the promotion and development of pili industry. Last year, Laysa was one of the Presidential Lingkod Bayan awardees, the highest award given to government employees by the Civil Service Commission.
