Baguio City, Philippines- Two enterprise groups and one individual young farmer from the Bicol Region participated in the national-level competition of the Young Farmers Challenge (YFC), held in Baguio City from July 14 to 16, 2025. They presented their innovative products to the panel of judges and demonstrated their business concepts and strategic approaches, emphasizing how their enterprises generate revenue while integrating sustainability practices to enhance their competitive advantage in the market.
Get to know our YFC National Awardees and Qualifiers in the Bicol Region:
- Eco Pure Cleaning Solutions from Goa, Camarines Sur, has been honored as one of the Top 15 Outstanding National Awardees in the Start-up Component, under the Non-Food Processing category. Managed and operated by Lea Mae Lizardo, Reyden Guevarra, Grace Ubalde and John Glenn Mesa. Their proposed product, Calamansi Dishwashing Tablets, is a food-grade dishwashing tablet made with ingredients classified by the FDA as safe for consumption. These young farmers are continuously developing innovative solutions that promote sustainable and eco-friendly cleaning alternatives.
- Batuan Food Enterprises from Sorsogon State University is a national qualifier representing the intercollegiate component. The business owned and managed by students Rina O. Frac, Diana S. Madulid, Julie Ann G. Moroña, and Jerom P. Febrero. They carry the brand Batwasim (Batwan powder) — a powdered souring agent made from pure batwan fruit, without any added chemical preservatives. It is recommended as a souring ingredient for pork and fish sinigang, chicken, shrimp, and other Filipino cuisines and delicacies.
- Layuan Nature Integrated Farm from Bulan, Sorsogon, represented the upscale component. The business is owned and managed by the national qualifier, Marione Calveen G. Gueta. He has developed a production and service-related enterprise that primarily cultivates rice and coconut. Currently, the farm focuses on cultivating the ‘Top 555’ taro variety to meet local supply demands. The farm is also gearing towards being an agricultural learning site and agritourism farm.
