San Agustin, Pili, Camarines Sur – After a long hiatus, the Philippine Agriculture Journalists, Inc. (PAJ) Bicol Chapter was reorganized and a new set of officers were elected.
Spearheaded by the DA Bicol Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section (RAFIS), the election was held after a press briefing at the DA RFO 5 compound on January 17, 2024.
Dr. Mary Grace Rodriguez, OIC Regional Technical Director for Operations led the oath taking of the newly elected officers led by Rhaydz Barcia, correspondent of Manila Times and Rappler as President.
Elected as Vice President was Bobby Labalan, President of the Media Association of Sorsogon; Secretary – Bong Villacruz, station manager of Idol FM Naga; Treasurer – Dr. Ana-Liza Macatangay, Assistant Regional Director of Philippine Information Agency 5; Auditor – Marga Matos of Bombo Radyo Naga; PRO for print – Connie Calipay, OIC Bureau Chief of the Philippine News Agency; PRO for TV – Rosas Olarte, Correspondent of CNN Philippines; PRO for Broadcast – Maria Fe Mariscal, station manager of Radyo Natin Naga.
The five Board of Directors included: Ramil Doods A. Marianito, Regional Director of the Philippine Information Agency Region 5; Lovella P. Guarin, Chief of DA RAFIS; Marlon Atun, Information Officer II of PIA 5; Michael Jaucian, correspondent of Philippine Daily Inquirer; and Roden Sical, Station Manager of Brigada News FM Naga.
The PAJ was established in 1976 as a group of agricultural writers in the Philippines. The organization aims to unite the country’s agricultural writers and communicators; strengthen the agricultural journalism profession thru seminars and workshop; contribute to agricultural development thru the dissemination of vital and relevant information.
DA Bicol Regional Executive Director Rodel P. Tornilla thanked the members of the media for their dedication in agricultural reportage and advocacy. Tornilla also acknowledged the vital role and support of the media in the agri-fishery information dissemination. (L. Guarin)
