VIRAC, CATANDUANES – Despite the incessant rains over the Bicol Region brought by shear line from December to January this year, the promise of healthy harvest beckons as the Malusog rice planted by the farmer cooperators in this town remains robust.

In an interview with Virac Municipal Agriculturist Jimma V. Tadoy, she confirmed that more than two hectares in different sites in Virac were planted with Malusog rice.

The farmer-cooperators were enthusiastic with this new rice variety as they observed the rice’s robust growth and resistance to pests and diseases.

The province of Catanduanes is one of the seven provinces in the Philippines selected as pilot areas for the cultivation of the biofortified Malusog Rice. The National Seed Industry Council (NSIC) has approved the said rice variety as NSIC 2022 Rc 682GR2E or Malusog 1.
