BULA, CAMARINES SUR – The Pecuaria Development Cooperative (PDC) recently passed the audit conducted by the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS). The PDC is the first PGS Organic Certifying Body in Bicol.

The BAFS, one of the bureaus of the Department of Agriculture, recently conducted an office and witness audit to verify the compliance of the PDC. The audit which was held on August 15-18, 2023 was witnessed by the teams from Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division and Regulatory Division.

The audit aims to verify the PDC’s compliance with the amended Organic Agriculture Act of 2010 (RA 11511) and its Implementing Rules and Regulations including the Participatory Organic Certification Scheme.

The BAFS assessment team was composed of Vicente D. Limsan, Jr, Team Leader; Clarisse Jill R. Guevarra, member and Joeve S. Calleja, observer.

The team assessed the effectiveness of the Manual of Operations and Internal Standards; the competence of the peer reviews in conducting farm inspection; as well as documented information.

Adelina A. Losa, Organic Agriculture focal person of DA Bicol said that the awarding of the PGS Certificate to PDC will be held during the 14th Bicol Organic Agriculture Congress (BOAC) to be held at the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture on August 30, 2023.

Another coop, the Camarines Norte Federation of Cooperatives (CANOFECO) in Vinzons, Camarines Norte will also undergo the same audit on August 29 to Sept. 2, 2023 in connection with their PGS accreditation as an organic certifying body. (Lovella Guarin – RAFIS 5) Photo by Raymond Adversario.
