LEGAZPI CITY—“Warang gutom sa pagtanom, may negosyo ka pa sa pagtanom.”

This was the message of Brenda B. Locsin, the president of the PBN Broadcasting Network Inc during the opening program of the 3rd Bicol Agri-Aqua Fair held on October 28-30, 2019 in one of the malls here.

This fair is an advocacy project of DZGB-AM in celebration of its 61st Anniversary Foundation with agriculture as its flagship program.

Anchored on the belief that “Going back to the basics” of planting will help improve food sufficiency among families and communities and help the farmers and stakeholders promote their product, the three-day activity is conducted in partnership with the Department of Agriculture-5, Legazpi City Government and Ayala Malls.

DA-5 OIC-Chief of the Field Operations Division Dr. Marygrace DP Rodriguez said that this fair showed a strong partnership and support from private and government entities in promoting agriculture and its programs.

She reminded everyone that each person has a role in agricultural development.

“Farmers plant for us to live and survive” she added.

Congressmen Fernando T. Cabredo of the 3rd District of Albay and Atty. Alfredo A. Garbin; and Tabaco City Mayor Krisel Lagman also pronounced that agriculture is always part of their advocacies and projects.

DA-5 Regional Information Officer Emily B. Bordado cited the eight paradigms of agriculture—modernization of agriculture; industrialization of agriculture; promotion of exports; farm consolidation; roadmap development; infrastructure development; higher budget and investments for agriculture; and legislative support. These paradigms will lead to the present battlecry of DA—“masaganang ani, mataas na kita”.

She also lauded the organizers of the fair said that this activity provides an avenue for small farmers and agri-preneurs to showcase and market their products.

She added that the DA is doing its best to protect the farmers and providing interventions and opportunities to farmers and their families.

“Dakulun oportunidad sa agrikultura,” Bordado said. The 3rd Bicol Agri-Aqua Fair will feature Agri-fora on Great Bicolano and LGUs in Agriculture, Food Demonstrations and awards and recognition to Outstanding Farmers and Fisherfolks in Legazpi City. (jaysonmgonzales)
